Understanding Doodle Breeds
Bringing a puppy into your family is a lifetime commitment. At SouthEast Doodles, we specialize in Mini Goldendoodles, Moyen Goldendoodles, and Cockapoos because they make exceptional family companions. However, each breed has unique characteristics.
Mini Goldendoodles
Mini Goldendoodles typically weigh between 20-35 pounds. They are an excellent balance of the Golden Retriever's affable, eager-to-please nature and the Miniature Poodle's high intelligence and low-shedding coat.
- Best for: Families with children, apartment living, and allergy sufferers.
- Activity Level: Moderate. They love a good walk but are happy to cuddle on the couch.
Moyen Goldendoodles
Moyen (or medium) Goldendoodles are slightly larger, usually weighing between 35-50 pounds. They offer the robust, sturdy feel of a Standard Goldendoodle but in a more manageable size.
- Best for: Active families, homes with yards, and those who want a "big dog" feel without the giant footprint.
- Activity Level: Moderate to High. Excellent hiking and outdoor companions.
Cockapoos
A cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, Cockapoos are incredibly affectionate, loyal, and thrive on human companionship. They are generally smaller, ranging from 12-24 pounds.
- Best for: Seniors, singles, and families looking for a constant shadow and lap dog.
- Activity Level: Low to Moderate.
Generations Explained (F1, F1B, F1BB)
- F1: 50% Poodle, 50% Retriever/Spaniel. Classic "teddy bear" look. Light to moderate shedding.
- F1B: A backcross to a Poodle, typically described as 75% Poodle ancestry. Coat and shedding vary.
- F1BB: A further backcross to a Poodle, typically described as 87.5% Poodle ancestry. This does not guarantee a hypoallergenic or non-shedding dog.
No generation guarantees an allergy-free response. Consult your clinician about allergies before choosing a dog.
Choosing the right breed ensures a harmonious household. We are always happy to discuss your specific lifestyle to help you make the perfect match!
